“Into The Drawers” on the International Youth Day

12 August 2025

On the occasion of the International Youth Day – August 12, Masar Association presented “Into the Drawers” on the stage of Sunflower Theater in Beirut, attended by 340 people from youth groups and civil society, representing various Lebanese regions: North, South, Bekaa, Mount Lebanon, and the capital Beirut.

“Into the Drawers” sheds light on the reality of Lebanese youth, the national youth policy endorsed by the government in 2012, the related action plan endorsed in 2022, and the importance of implementing both in order to serve the best interests of young people. Artistically, “Into the Drawers” is a professional and purposeful work of art. The actors are young graduates and students of theater at the Lebanese University.

Following the performance, a discussion was held during which attendees praised the quality of the theatrical production – its text, direction, and acting. They emphasized in their remarks the need for decision-makers to attend “Into The Drawers” so they could see firsthand the reality of Lebanese youth so vividly portrayed in the play. They also expressed the feeling of uncertainty among Lebanese youth – torn between staying in Lebanon, a country they love, and emigrating abroad to seek stability. The relationship with Lebanon, they said, is one of love/hate at the same time. They further stated: “Lebanese youth have all the potential, but the system prevents us from advancing and innovating. They want us to emigrate and send money so that the system can continue.”

One participant concluded by saying: “The power of theatre is that it awakens in us the feeling that: No, we will not accept the current situation; we must bring change.”

This final statement resonates with Masar Association’s approach: using art as a tool for development and policy change.

On the International Youth Day, Masar Association reaffirms its commitment to continue working with others to achieve youth-friendly policies that enable Lebanese youth to thrive in Lebanon.

“Into The Drawers” was produced with the support of the Norwegian Embassy in Lebanon.
